Course Title: Digital Photography
Course Description: Digital Photography is a yearlong course that focuses on understanding the basic operations and functions of a digital single-lens reflex camera and the manipulation of its settings to achieve a specific result. Students will learn about photographic elements of art and principles of design, composition, and lighting. They will explore the history of photography, learning about its scientific and technological developments, important innovators in the field, and relevance within diverse cultural contexts. Students will write and speak about aesthetic, technical, and expressive qualities in a photograph, learning to critique their own and other’s work. Students learn image techniques and digital manipulation using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, teaching them how to archive, organize, and optimize their photographs for print or web purposes. Students will learn how to manage and creatively alter digital images as well as critically analyze the use of visual media as a means of communication in our society today. They will be provided a greater level of autonomy, expected to pursue their own interests and develop an individual voice. Students will explore the significance of photography within the larger context of the art world, and learn about the critical and varied application it has to the modern working world.

Course Description: Graphic Design I is an introduction to art that is intended to communicate information and to advertise. Students will explore the five elements of design (line, shape, mass, texture, and color) as the basic building blocks for a conceptual understanding of effective visual communication. Additionally, the course focuses on the study and use of layout concepts used in the graphic design field. Course Title: Introduction to Professional Theatre
Professional Theatre 1 emphasizes developing industry-standard skills based on the CTE Arts Media Standards for the Performing Arts Pathway. Students develop strong foundational professional acting skills by exploring the major theories and techniques of acting, including improvisation, physical expressiveness, voice production, character portrayal, monologue/scene study, and directorial techniques (blocking and rehearsal). Students also study a wide range of professional models, including Broadway, regional, and community theatre, as well as majoring/minoring in theatre in college.
Course Title: Professional Theatre 2
This course is the concentrator (second course) in the Professional Theatre pathway, which provides professional theatre training in the rehearsal and performance of stage plays and/or musical theatre. It is designed for students who have previously taken Professional Theatre 1. Students audition with the director for participation in a stage play or musical. This course may include acting, singing, and/or dancing, and requires technical/dress rehearsals and preparation.
Course Title: CTE Advanced Musical Theatre
This course is an extensive study of advanced musical theatre performance. Students will actively engage in advancing their acting, singing and dance skills and the synthesis of these talents into professional musical theatre readiness. They will be trained to approach character, scene, text, and song analysis from an academic standpoint and integrate this into their performances. They will be taught the history, theories, vocabulary, and constructs of theatre, voice and dance, specific to the study of musical theatre. These young artists will participate in workshops, in-class exercises and performances and will learn to observe, analyze and then put into writing the findings from their individual course of discovery.
Course Title: Professional Theatre 3
This course is the capstone (final course) in the Professional Theatre pathway, which provides professional theatre training in the rehearsal and performance of stage plays and/or musical theatre. It is designed for students who have previously taken Professional Theatre 1. Students audition with the director for participation in a stage play or musical. Introduction to Stagecraft provides introductory knowledge and skills to students interested in technical theater. This course aligns with several California Common Core State Standards in the Arts, Media and Entertainment pathway along with standards in English, Algebra, Geometry and Mathematical modeling. Students will learn the basic elements of technical theater in all major areas of production including set construction, lighting design and implementation, sound design and implementation, prop construction and design, costume and make-up design and artistry and stage management.
Course Title: CTE Stagecraft
Stagecraft CTE provides knowledge and skills to students interested in technical theater. This course aligns with several California Common Core State Standards in the Arts, Media and Entertainment pathway along with Standards in English, Algebra, Geometry, Mathematical Modeling, and Number and Quality. Students will learn the basic elements of technical theater in all major areas of production including Set Construction, Lighting Design and implementation, Sound design and implementation, Prop construction and design, Costume and Make-up design and artistry, and Stage Management. Taking this course develops students' skills to succeed in Advanced Stagecraft CTE.
Course Title: Advanced Stagecraft
This is a class designed to teach the art of theatrical design, implementation, and production to students who are interested in set construction and decoration, lighting, sound, properties, costumes, company or stage management, and arts administration. Each student will be able to demonstrate a mastery of the fundamental principles of technical production work. When competencies are evaluated and strengths and interests are found, each student will specialize in one or two of these areas and pursue major projects and research sharing this knowledge and skill with the class culminating with the successful productions on multiple projects. This class will also be responsible for running and maintaining the school event venues for the other performing arts disciplines, the school, and the community. This course provides a bridge between practical skills (construction, sound mixing, electrical work, multimedia production) and design concepts (mood, modes of artistic expression, etc.). It gives many students a foray into artistic expression that are interested in modes of expression outside of performance. It also serves to connect a wide array of our students at varying levels of academic achievement and school connectedness. This course is aligned with Common Core ELA standards as well as further support college and career readiness.
